This is a very useful link for helping children learn their times tables.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJiiLDPsuzo .  Tutoring Primary endorses that author’s presentation of the tables as:

3  times 4 = 12,   3 times 5 = 15. This is the active voice of the verb.
If the table is reversed as in 4 times 3 = 12,  5 times 3 = 15, it is NOT the 3x table. 

You must say:  4 multipled by 3 = 12,   5 multiplied by 3 = 15.  Then, and only then, is it the 3x table using the passive voice of the verb.

However, schools in Australia have reversed the true pattern and in the view of Tutoring Primary it has led to confusion.
